Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...

  • The weekends go by too fast!
  • Enjoyed attending a friend's wedding on Saturday. It was a beautiful wedding but I was a hot mess because it was held outdoors.
  • Went to Busch Gardens with students on Sunday evening.
  • Had a great time sippin lemonade, riding roller coasters, and watching the shows.
  • Saw Third Day in concert there.
  • Mac Powell reminds me of Travis Tritt.
  • A couple of teens told me on Sunday that they were already bored with summer. Are you kidding me? I was NEVER bored during summers.
  • My AC went out last night. Fortunately I have a friend in the AC biz and called them to come to my rescue.
  • Speaking at a youth camp next week in the mountains of VA. I'm stoked.
  • Got a call from an old friend today who was a model\actor now turned writer\director.
  • He has established his own film company and has written his first screenplay and wants me involved with the project.
  • He sent me the entire movie script this evening and I'm very excited to review it.
  • I'm blown away with how this film is coming together for him.
  • Like! my page on Facebook [here]
  • Now that the AC is back on I'm tempted to set my thermostat at 42 degrees.
  • Great post by Seth Godin on Validation.
  • Glad that Starbucks is getting Free Wifi this week!
  • Lately I've had more questions than answers. I'm reminding myself that this is not a bad thing.
  • I have a few friends who are in South Africa for the #WorldCup
  • Sad the USA got knocked out so early.
  • I created a new newsletter for my friends & fam. If you want to be included, go [here]
  • If you'd like to contribute to the "legend-of-the-rent-is-way-hardcore" fund, feel free to use the donate button in the sidebar. Otherwise, you can find my address in this post.

Does GOD Really Have My Back?

I asked myself this question today. Sorry, I'm human. I have faith... but occasionally have doubts too. So tonight I found myself doubting... and finding it hard to trust that God really will provide and that He really will direct my next steps.
I confessed my feelings via twitter and facebook.
... and then, I turned to the scriptures and this was the first verse I read:

I never knew that when I wrote this post it would strike such a chord with folks. I began getting inundated with emails and tweets from leaders all over the country who are losing their jobs or facing pay cuts. It is for YOU that I write these honest thoughts... this encouragement for the journey... because you, like me, may be faced with the same question - or the same doubt - does HE have my back? YES HE DOES.

Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...

  • Where did the weekend go?
  • I think weekends should go much slower than the work week. Anybody?
  • Scored a free ticket to Ripley's Believe it or Not Museum on Friday. Took a quick trip to Williamsburg to check it out and took a couple of students with me. Enjoyed their 4-d theatre more than the museum itself but it was fun.
  • Saw motown legend Freda Payne in concert on Saturday evening.
  • If you're not into the World Cup, perhaps this would explain it?
  • Soccer is huge! The Superbowl drew 106 million viewers. The World Cup final is expected to draw over 706 million viewers.
  • Congrats to the Class of 2010. Here's a video I've prepared for you...
  • ...and by prepared I mean found online.
  • I was inspired by this student's graduation speech.
  • Went to Busch Gardens with students on Sunday evening.
  • Saw Switchfoot in concert on Sunday.
  • It rained again on us. Third. consecutive. sunday.
  • This time around I was actually thankful for the rain because it only rained about 30 minutes during the concert and the temp dropped.
  • I got nominated as a speaker for The Nines conference. My friend, Todd Rhoades, created this handy twitter poll featuring dozens of potential speakers. Go vote!
  • Someone said to me a few months ago: "TC, I know you are a Christian because your hair points to heaven." Two weeks ago when we honored our grads one of our graduates thanked me (on stage) for pointing him to heaven with my hair. Needless to say, the audience loved it.
  • Then came this latest wall post on my facebook...
  • I told someone the other day that I have a mild-mannered faux hawk. Ha.
  • I found one of my old mix cd's the other day. I've been listening to it ever since. It's filled with music by U2, Nicklecreek and this one by Vanessa Carlton.
  • Playground Equipment needed. If you can help, go [here]
  • Just checked out Text Expander for Mac
  • Like! my page on Facebook [here]
  • Today I got several phone calls from some amazing leaders I highly respect. It was a good day. I wouldn't mind getting several of those kind of calls everyday. =)
  • I created a new newsletter for my friends & fam. If you want to be included, go [here]
  • If you'd like to contribute to the "legend-of-the-rent-is-way-hardcore" fund, feel free to use the donate button in the sidebar. Otherwise, you can find my address in this post.

  • Thank you... and good night.

Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...
  • Just finished up a marathon weekend.
  • Last week was a blurrr...
  • Had a great time speaking in our weekend services!
  • Our band covered "I'm Alive" by Flyleaf following my message and nailed it!
  • I think everyone had fun on Sunday.
  • We honored our grads. Congrats to the Class of 2010.
  • Definitely one of my favorite Sundays in a while, in spite of the speaker.
  • Went to Busch Gardens with students on Sunday evening.
  • Saw Steven Curtis Chapman in concert. It was good seeing him again.
  • Storms suspended the concert for a bit, but then we were all good...
  • Francesca Battistelli opened for him. Someone from our group threw one of our church t-shirts on-stage for her and she grabbed it just before she walked off.
  • It was sooo hot this weekend.
  • Last week a lady told me that my hair made her happy.
  • This week, one of our graduates told me that he appreciated my hair pointing him to heaven.
  • All in a day's work people. All in a day's work...
  • I have got to get to the Y.
  • Uh... twitter is currently down.
  • Been getting the opportunity to speak with some great people over the past few weeks. Really enjoyed chatting with Marko a few days ago. What a great guy...
  • Like! my page on Facebook [here]
  • So this is why grandpa is on Facebook...
  • I used Farmville in my message this past weekend. It was pretty funny. I showed a picture of what my farm would look like if I played the real-time simulation game. It was complete with a castle (next to a barn! for crying out loud) and there was an swimming pool next to the corn field. Ha.
  • I created a new newsletter for my close friends. If you want to be included, go [here]
  • A good friend just gave me a copy of Ben Arment's Church in the Making. Niiceee.
  • Released the big news on the blog this past week about my position being reduced to part-time due to budget cutbacks. Your prayers & support are appreciated.
  • If you'd like to contribute to the "legend-of-the-rent-is-way-hardcore" fund, feel free to use the donate button in the sidebar. Otherwise, you can find my address in this post.

Big Announcement

For months now many churches have had to cut expenses due to the economy. Our church is no different. We've curtailed spending in every way possible and have tried to maintain the level of ministry we had before but its been difficult. In fact, I've operated on zero budget since I walked in the door.

Though our church is growing, we are still falling short and have taken some pretty painful measures to help matters. In February our staff took paycuts. In April we said goodbye to our worship pastor. And now, my position is being cut to part-time status.

I'm literally hours away from feeling the financial burden of going from full-time to part-time. I share this news with you because my faith is being tested and honestly, I'd appreciate your prayers & support. I need it now more than ever.

I've spent countless hours seeking direction and I don't have one doubt God will provide for my needs, but in the words Mr. Schneebly from The School of Rock, "the legend of the rent is way hardcore."

To that end, I am accepting speaking and consulting engagements this summer to help relieve some of the burden (and do something I enjoy) as my schedule will allow and would appreciate any further prayers or financial support you might offer me during this difficult season.

If you'd like to offer a financial gift at this time, please feel free to use the donation link in the side-bar of my site (or see the address below). Otherwise, I'd welcome inquiries about speaking or consulting. Following are dates I'm currently accepting bookings for:

June 23-26:
June 30-03:
July 04-10::
Youth Camp Speaker, Goshen VA
July 14-17:
July 19-24:
Mission Camp, Philadelphia, PA
July 28-31:
August 04-07:

August 11-14:
August 25-28:

Thank you so much for your support. My faith has been tested more this year than ever before... and this is yet another round of it. I can't wait to see what God does!

Financial gifts or correspondence may be mailed to my attention: PO Box 2461, Yorktown, VA 23692
Thanks to all my friends who have tweeted or blogged about this.
Your support is invaluable.

Why Do I Even Bother?

sometimes i want to... GIVE UP on people. I constantly ask myself "WHY EVEN BOTHER ANYMORE?!" i say to myself "IS IT REALLY WORTH ALL THIS FRUSTRATION?" know what i mean? but God LOVES them. God LOVES me. it is WORTH it. HE is WORTH it. and He won't let me GIVE UP on them.
Some of my raw thoughts shared on [Facebook] today.

Sometimes it Blows Up in Your Face!

My friends at Youth Specialties released this vid to promo the National Youth Worker's Convention this year. Very nicely done. Make time and set aside $ to take your team this year. You'll thank me later.
By the way, every senior pastor should see this. =)

Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...
  • It's been a bit crazy around here the last week.
  • My head is swirling right now.
  • Thanks for your prayers for our students and our local leaders that have been dealing with the loss of a student.
  • Been getting inundated with emails from youth workers looking for jobs!
  • Attended the Greek Festival on Sunday after our weekend services.
  • Had a great time eating some lamb... and watching the shows.
  • Took a tour of a local Greek Orthodox Church.
  • Went to Busch Gardens with students on Sunday evening.
  • We had a grand ole' time.
  • I saw Grits & Kirk Franklin in concert while there.
  • I love me some ole school Grits... and Kirk Franklin was great.
  • That dude has a way with an audience. The audience was on their feet the entire time! I can't remember the last time I saw that at a Christian concert.
  • Left the park a bit early due to heavy thunder storms. I was drenched by the time I got to my car.
  • There are going to be more babies in our family this Christmas. Two of my cousins are expecting. Christmas is going to rock.
  • A lady told me earlier today that my hair made her happy. =)
  • Looked in after my neighbor's dog this weekend while they were out of town. I couldn't have asked for a better dog to look after! Definitely well-trained.
  • They texted me one time while away just to check-in... "Hey, how's the dog?"
  • I texted back "He's been great!"
  • Text back to me "He's a she! LoL!"
  • I'm so thankful God has given me some really great friends.
  • I meet up with one of those friends once a week now for encouragement & accountability.
  • He told me last week that he prays just before he sees me that he would speak exactly what God would have him speak to me during our time together. What a gift this is to me.
  • I hope you have someone your life like this.
  • It's comforting to know that technology even screws up for Steve Jobs.
  • Free audio-book by Francis Chan [here]
  • Like! my page on Facebook [here]

A Band I'd Recommend...

We've produced a concert with a local band, Bear Crossing, twice this year. Our first experience with them was in January when we relaunched our ministry. Our last experience was just a few weeks ago when we hosted a concert to benefit our youth mission trip this summer. I asked Bear Crossing to help us raise the funds we needed and even though they had gigs on their schedule that gave them greater exposure, they jumped on board immediately.
These guys have a great sound, are fun to work with and will do a great job for you. If you are looking for a band for your next event, give them a call. Tell them I referred you. =)
We still need to make up some ground for our students to be able to go on mission this summer. Would you consider donating to this cause? [Click here] to give and make sure you indicate the donation is for "youth mission trip."
