A few days ago I saw The Book of Eli in theaters. This is one of the best films I've seen in years! Here's a quick synopsis: Eli (Denzel Washington) has been on a journey for 30 years walking westward after a cataclysmic war and "the big Flash" turned the world into a wasteland. Eli has in his possession the only remaining copy of "the Book" and must protect it and ultimately deliver it to its final destination. This story is about Eli's journey -- and the Book that he believes that is humanity's only hope for its future. This movie had everything in it - original storyline, likeable characters, action... and delivered one of the best spiritual messages I've seen in a secular film since the Passion of the Christ. The story holds the Bible in high regard - with constant mentions of its power and ability to change people. With that, I highly recommend you see this movie! (The movie is (R) - for violence - and would not be suitable for young viewers.)

On January 22 a new indie movie "To Save a Life" written by seasoned youth worker, Jim Britts, hits select theatres. This movie is about real life challenges that teens face and the response from students who have seen the film has been incredible. There is a grassroots effort underway in my area to have the film shown in multiple theatres, although its only scheduled for one. I'd encourage you to check out the trailer, log on to the movie site and get some resources to help support this work.

This vid is hawt! This Christmas Granger will be leveraging the topics in Dickens' classic A Christmas Carol for a special teaching series. The December series will focus on recovery from their past, making a difference in the present, and deciding on a purposeful future.
Speaking of a Christmas Carol, I just saw the movie last week in IMAX. The movie was very well done... but a little overplayed & dark in some parts. I'd be cautious to let small children watch it. However, Granger's production - following their series - I can highly recommend. =)

James Cameron directed a film 12 years ago. It was called Titanic. He hasn't directed anything since. Until now. And his new creation is being dubbed the "future of film." Here is a sneak peak at the new film, set to release in December, called "Avatar."

You know the voice-over guy from all the movies, tv shows and pretty much everything else you've ever seen -- well, besides the projects that Ryan Seacrest hasn't touched? He passed away today at the age of 68. What in the world are we going to do now?

Here is a new word and a new documentary for your radar - "RELIGULOUS." Bill Mahr is known for is comedy and for his stance against religion. His latest creation is what he calls "Religulous," a portmanteau derived from the words "religion" and "ridiculous," implying the satirical nature of his new documentary that is meant to mock the concept of organized religion and the problems it brings about. Here is the trailer:
Additionally, Mahr and company have launched a website for all things religulous called Disbeliefnet, which covers everything from the heretic press to mock ads for the XXXChurch, provides a "blasphemy box" and a verse for the moment like this one:
The documentary was slated for release at Easter but due to the writer's strike it has been pushed back for release this October.

Have you seen the advertising for Disney’s new Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian? Movie banners are everywhere, including on the sides of city buses like the one below.
This pic displays theunfortunate awesome placement of one of the buses reflectors over Prince Caspian’s face. Imagine this evil eye blinking on and off at you as the bus makes a turn. Funny. When you are adapting your artwork it probably pays to look at the mechanical supplied.
I cannot wait to see this movie. It is in theatres May 16.

Lots of pictures have been circulating around the internet since last Sunday's OSCAR show. Here is one of Diablo Cody the morning after. I'd probably be huggin mine too had I won.
Watching this year's boring Oscars would have been SO worth it for me had Kevin O'Connell won for Sound Mixing for Transformers. This was his 20th nomination for this category! Just my two cents... but if you have received 20 nominations the Academy should hand over a statue!

I LOVE the National Lampoon's Vacation movies. The 1983 Warner Bros. classic chronicles the trials and tribulations of the Griswold family (featuring Chevy Chase) as they trek cross-country in search of fun and recreation at the mythical WallyWorld theme park. Along the way, they get lost, pick up their cantankerous aunt Edna (Imogene Coca), dispose of her corpse after she passes away in the back seat and narrowly skirt death several times before reaching their destination only to find that the theme park closed for renovations.
I thought about this movie today when I read this news of the weird about a family who just traveled over 1,100 miles with their dead grandma in the car.
