David Crowder's Latest Music [Video]

I love David Crowder's music. He'll also go down in my books as one of the friendliest people I've ever worked with. Now, he's adding to his credit "Lite Brite genius." Remember the old school "Lite Brites?" Crowder and over 80 of his friends spent time shooting over 1200 frames on this 80's toy to make a one-of-a-kind music video for his latest release "Shine." The video and song are both very impressive. Go [here] if you want further details about how the video was made.

I May Be Going to Jail...

On November 1st I may be put in jail... unless I can raise enough bail from family and friends to keep me out.
I currently have the privilege of serving on the board of directors of Recovery for Life. This ministry is a faith-based program designed to help people with addictions. People with drug & alcohol, sex, and even food addictions, among many others, have found hope and healing through this organization. I have witnessed the life-change firsthand.
Two years ago I spent an entire summer serving in their program for teens. Yes, they even have programs for teens (and children!) to teach them how to cope and break the cycle. It's a remarkable ministry... doing a remarkable work... but it takes money to keep a ministry like this going. So the board of directors (which includes yours truly!) may be jailed if we don't raise enough funds (individually) by November 1st - which by my calendar is this Monday! (Yikes)
Would you consider giving $10, $2o or even $50 to help me post bail? Not only will you make me happy but you will literally make a difference in hundreds of lives. If you can contribute at this time, please drop me an email with your pledge amount and I'll get an invoice to you. Otherwise, make an instant impact on the secure website [here] - just indicate my name when you donate. All the funds raised (bail money) will go to the charity, Recovery for Life.
Feel free to leave a comment on this post with the amount of your pledge (unless you'd like to remain anonymous) so I can thank you also!
On behalf of the board of Recovery for Life, we thank you for your support and generosity!
*Please note* This is a fundraiser for the ministry of Recovery for Life.

Almost Christian: Q&A with Kenda Creasy Dean

I recently interviewed the author of "Almost Christian," Kenda Creasy Dean, who got America talking about the faith of teens today.
Her book received national attention after CNN printed an article regarding her book and with the headline "More Teens Becoming Fake Christians." Check out the full interview, including her thoughts on what she thinks the role of youth workers should look like in the church today [here].

Do You Need VISION for Your Life?

I'm constantly thinking about my future. And sometimes I am overcome by fear. Often I share the same fear Tony does, that I'm just spinning my wheels in directions that don't really matter. Can you relate? Holla if you hear me.
One thing is for sure: I want my life to count... and I want a clear vision of how my life can best be used up for God's purposes.
Enter Chazown.
Craig Groeschel and the great folks at LifeChurch.tv have created the Chazown experience.
It's a website that will help you look at your life and process through your experiences, strengths, and gifts in a way that will help you get a clearer picture of what the vision of your life should be.
So, today I'm going to log-on and start going through this process. I'll answer questions, spend time in prayer, dream, and complete the program. Hopefully in the end I'll have a better picture of things and I can start to put skin on my next steps. Anyone game to join me?

How to Become a Scout for ChurchLeaders.com

As editor for ChurchLeaders.com I'm constantly on the lookout for the best content on the web. I'm also looking for voluntary partners who want to help other church leaders. That's where you come in.
If you like the idea of helping other church leaders and you feel you can contribute to our site, I highly encourage you to join my wonderful team of scouts!
What is a scout? I'm glad you asked.
A scout is someone that wants to voluntarily partner with us by contributing their insights, creative ministry ideas and resources with leaders worldwide.
If you are interested in becoming a scout here's our simple process:
1) Send me an email with your name, twitter name (if you have one), and tell me a little about yourself.
2) I'll send you a reply.
3) You'll begin looking out for content -- videos, blog posts, potential bloggers, feature articles, etc.
4) You'll send content my way and if we post you'll get credit (in the form of a link to your site or twitter).
5) You will get the satisfaction of knowing you're among other scouts who are resourcing and equipping other church leaders, and also have the chance to win a free resource each week (if you are a contributor).
So, want to join our team of scouts? Send me an email.

Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...
  • This weekend was a blur.
  • Is it really Monday?
  • Did a corn maze challenge with students on Saturday. It was a blast.
  • Headed to Catalyst One Day later this week. Can't wait!
  • Andy Stanley and Craig Groeschel will be teaching on the keys to momemtum at #catoneday. Find out more [here]
  • Really burdened for a couple youth pastors who are "going through it." I'm sick of church politics. I've seen too many ministers that have been burned because of it.
  • Have you checked out the ChurchLeaders Youth Channel? We're about to launch a weekly newsletter for youth workers.
  • Go [here] and sign up for the newsletter and get a FREE ebook!
  • Watching an episode of "The Cosby Show" while I type this. Never gets old. Never.
  • Got to interview Kenda Creasy Dean, author of Almost Christian. We'll be publishing it later this week.
  • My newest, favorite blogger. Introducing Blaine Hogan - former star of Prison Break... and now creative director at Willow.
  • Paypal is donating $0.05 everytime someone tweets #beatcancer
  • If that is not worth creating an account on twitter (if ur not already a member), I don't know what is....
  • I tried bacon covered in chocolate last night. Yes, it IS good.
  • Someone named "Terrece Crawford" started following me on twitter. I thought, for a moment, that I had started following myself!
  • I wanna get shot out of a cannon.
  • Just read a research fact that mosquitos are attracted to people who have recently eaten bananas. I may never eat bananas again...
  • This little exchange between my friend Rob & Seth Godin cracked me up today!
  • Getting ready to interview a high-profile leader. I love times like these.
  • I love wakerupper.com. Comes in handy too when traveling! A hotel I stayed at once actually forgot to give me my wake-up call. Now, I just use wakerupper. =)
  • Don't miss the Manic Monday Minute. Get the feed [here].
  • Thanks for spending a minute with me.

This is a stunning, time-lapse video of the Northern Lights of southern Norway captured by photographer Bernd Proschold and released by National Geographic. The moment when the clouds disappear and the lights emerge is breathtaking.

Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...
  • Been fighting allergies here. Ugh...
  • Saw "The Other Guys" this weekend with one of my students. Probably THE funniest Will Ferrell movie to date. I really enjoyed it and laughed non-stop.
  • Hated to miss Catalyst East again this year. I watched the [recap video]
  • Catalyst One Day is coming to Virginia. Find out more [here]
  • Also saw "It's Kind of a Funny Story" this weekend.
  • It should have been titled "It's Kind of a Weird, Depressing Story."
  • I sometimes make the mistake of not watching previews before going to a movie with friends. My friends chose this one (thinking it was actually a different movie) -- so we were all disappointed in the end. Definitely not worth the price of the movie ticket.
  • The weather here is... odd. We broke records today it was so hot.
  • Our weather man made a huge mistake today. I happened to be watching the forecast (which I never do). The folks behind the scenes put up the track of a tropical storm that was over & done with. Good thing he caught on seconds later... even though it wasn't a smooth cover up. #wannabetsomebodygotfired
  • Going on a corn maze adventure this weekend with students. I hope I find my way out.
  • Had a great time speaking in our weekend services this past weekend.
  • I was quoted saying "Salad is of the Devil" in my message. It's gone viral...
  • Have you checked out the ChurchLeaders Youth Channel? We're about to launch a weekly newsletter for youth workers. Go [here] and sign up.
  • "Whisper" for FREE. #justsayin
  • Stoked we invited speaker EJ Swanson to do a retreat for our ministry in November.
  • All this week I'm giving away FREE stuff on my Official Facebook page. Make sure you go and LIKE! my page and participate in the contests.
  • Got to interview Kenda Creasy Dean, author of Almost Christian. We'll be publishing it in the next few days at ChurchLeaders.com.
  • Do you like the new twitter? I think I do. It had to grow on me a little ... gotta be honest.
  • According to WIRED we're all wasting our time on twitter.
  • My alma mater asked me to help coordinate a retreat for youth ministry alumni. #stoked!

President Obama Loses His Presidential Seal

President Obama lost his presidential seal last night when he was speaking before an audience of women. As you'll see in the video, he didn't take it too seriously and even joked "they are sweating bullets in the back right now." Crazy things have happened when I've spoken too... power outages... people having seizures...props falling... but I can't say that we've ever seen something like this happen during a presidential address.

Oh wait, there was that flying shoe incident during Bush's speech a couple years ago!

So what crazy things have happened when you've been at the mic or podium?

Manic Monday Minute

Manic Monday Minute is a serious mind-dump that will probably take you one minute to read. Here are some thoughts going through my head right now...

This is the Manic Monday Minute...
  • Had a (sort of) uneventful weekend.
  • I was scheduled to speak at a youth retreat for the Air Force but it got canceled due to the retreat location being 3 feet under water! I'll tell you, we're rained out...
  • Allergies won't leave me alone.
  • Catalyst One Day is coming to Virginia. Find out more [here]
  • Met with a student earlier today who asked me to disciple him. That never gets old!
  • Celebrity Eva Longoria and Shaun King's project TwitChange raised a lot of money for Haiti.
  • Had to get my car worked on today. Something bizarre is going on...
  • Both of my back-up lights on my car got unplugged and one of the sockets was missing!
  • I swear I'm under attack...
  • One of my students told me yesterday that I look like Bart Millard from MercyMe.
  • 57 days till my birthday.
  • Couldn't believe I had to pull out the long sleeves for today.
  • Spent some time over the weekend encouraging students. I'm amazed at their talents...
  • There's a large corn maze about an hour from where I live. Contemplating taking students to check it out. Then again, my mind keeps going back to the scene in Signs and I'm all weak in the stomach.
  • My grandfather had a stroke yesterday. Many of you saw the news on twitter and facebook. Thanks so much for your prayers... he's doing much better.
  • I loved the book Blue Like Jazz. Now I hear their making a movie.
  • Rob Bell just released the full set of films from Poets, Prophets and Preachers. I can't wait to watch all five hours of his talk. I'll bet it'll feel like 10 minutes.
  • I'm speaking in our main services this weekend. Can't wait!
  • Have you checked out the ChurchLeaders Youth Channel? We're about to launch a weekly newsletter for youth workers. Go [here] and sign up.
  • Astronomers have discovered another planet humans can live on. Apparently its in the Goldilocks zone. Wonder this is gonna go...
